"Despite the light-hearted mood prior to teeing off, serious bragging rights were on offer.

Plenty of run on the fairways ensured some low scores on both sides, which resulted in the match being drawn 3-3.

Best result for Thorney was 4 & 2 for the pairing of Izod/Glaisher, and Bob Ford won a bottle for N t P"

                                                              Match Sheet

2024 Wednesday 29th May (A) Woolfox GC

"With the new course layout, some holes had a magical mystery tour feel to them. The result was in doubt until the final match came in, but it would seem familiarity favoured the home team slightly more than the visitors, as they ran out winners by 4 to 2. Strangely enough, all bar one match ended with a 2 & 1 score. There was a bottle of wine on offer for each team for nearest the pin.........both bottles went back in the cellar unclaimed!!!!"

                                                                Match Sheet

2024 Thursday 23rd May (H) Ramsey GC,

"On a very windy, but thankfully dry day, it was absolutely imperative to keep out of the punishing rough.

The home team obviously paid more attention to that instruction, running out winners by a very handsome margin of 5-1.

Special mention to the pairings of Izod/Glaisher and Cannings/Stephenson, both with 6 & 5 wins. Nearest the pin was Jim Stephenson (home), and Colin Mann (away)."

                                                                Match Sheet

2024 Thursday 2nd May (A) Old Nene

Despite a chilly start, it soon warmed up to ensure a pleasant round of golf. The Captain and his partner (who could have justifiably complained of sore shoulders), went dormy after 15 holes....the operative word being DORMY...we went asleep!! and ended with a draw. A win from the pairings of Ford/ Dowland. Cannings/Izod failed to get us over the line, and the home team secured a win by 3 1/2 to 2 1/2.

2024 Tuesday 30th April (A) Thorney Lakes Ladies

Ladies organised the meal so we let them have it as their home match. As usual a tough ask. Special mention to Gary Adam & John Unwin giving away 19 % 15 shots. They won 2 up.

All team members excelled. Gerry and I faced Julie & Maureen who proved on the day how good they play together. In the end The Seniors won 2 1/2 to 1 1/2. Meal & service was superb as usual.

2024 Wednesday 17th April (A) Tydd St Giles

"For our away match at TYDD,, the sun was shining, there was no wind, the course was in lovely condition.........and the Captain couldn't find his tee shot on the 1st. Despite that mishap, he and Bob Ford edged a very close match, winning 1 up. The 2nd. paring of Cannings/Adam won convincingly by 5 & 3. Unfortunately, the other 4 matches ended in defeat for the visitors, 4 & 3 being a familiar score!!!"

2024  Thursday 4th April (H) Old Nene

Won 4 1/2 to 3 1/2

At the meet  & greet confusion again as the order of play had to be changed and one of the opposing players decided he wanted to play with someone else. Also it was a do it yourself  job for writing out our cards. Despite this myself and Steve Batchelor started well winning the first five holes and our game 4 & 3. Our 2nd pairing of Gerry Cannnigs & Roin Needham also carried the honours

4 & 3. The weaqther was anpother scorching day. The coursa was in good condtion and the greens very good,

2023 Thursday 3rd August (H) Woolfox

Won 4 to 2

Despite total confusion regarding the running order (blame the visiting Capt.), battle commenced with good weather, although most of our visitors had played Thorney before, local knowledge proved crucial, and the match result was in doubt until the last group finished.

4 & 3 wins by J. Robinson/Adam and Deeping/Kennedy were the best results on the day.  NTP  on the 2nd  Roger Davey (H), & John Adkins (A). A bottle of wine for each

2023 Mon. 26th June (A)Oundle

Lost 4 To 2

A challenging course played in ideal conditions. A nice cool breeze in the morning had the Thorney hopefuls , while gathering in the car park, exclaim that no one had told them to bring a jumper. Once under way the sun came out. Games of note were

Paul Rawlings & Garry Adam who blitzed the opposition 6 & 5,

chipping in was the order of play. The two Jon's took their time

to finish victorious  with a 4 & 3 win. Well done everyone against

a team who played very well (birdies not uncommon).

Lost  3 1/2 to 2 1/2

With miles of run on the dry seaside fairways, good scores were the order of the day.

The 1st match out saw a convincing 6 & 4 win for Ford/Dowland. The other win from Kennedy/Izod went all the way to the 18th. A half from Davey/Robinson(jnr.) fulfilled the Captain's prophecy that the run had to end somewhere, and so it proved, going down

3 ½ to 2 ½ .

Won 5 to 3

"The visitors from Ramsey had asked if they could bring a 16-man team, and Captain Bob's troops duly stepped up to the plate to match their number.

Although the Capt. and his partner had a stuttering start (their opponent was..."on fire"), 4 wins and 2 halves from the ranks saw the home team enjoy a handsome win by 5 to 3. This ensures the Seniors have yet to lose a match this season, roll on the next one."

With the 3rd hole unplayable, moving water on one fairway, sodden greens and a 2-club wind, local knowledge proved key on most occasions as we struggled to cope with the conditions. Fearing a repeat of last year's mauling, the team battled on, and ended the day with a very commendable draw.

2022

Heacham Manor Won 31/2 to 21/2

Despite a rather dodgy start to the season, and despite a weird and wonderful 1st tee shot today, Captain Malcolm and his team ensured a successful end to this year's matches. Having been trounced in the away match, lady luck smiled on us today with a win by 3.5 to 2.5.

Wins from Messrs. Rawlings/Kind, Deeping/Boot, Kennedy/Latham, and a very commendable half for the pairing of Unwin & Sutherland against an 80-year-old playing off 14 ensured a victory for Thorney.                           Results

Tydd Lost (H) 31/2 to 21/2

Having commenced proceedings in the pouring rain, it dried up fairly quickly, and so did our share of good luck.

Our guests managed to cross the line by a short head, ending with a victory by 3.5 to 2.5.

Best scores for the home team were provided by the pairings of Deeping/Unwin and Lockwood/Boot, 4&3 and 3&1 respectively.                                                   Results

Woolfox (H) won 4:2

Having tasted victory last time out, the Captain was pleased to keep the run going, ending up with a 4-2 win.

Best score of the day was 5 & 4, courtesy of Messrs. Cooper & Reynolds.                                                            Results

Oundle (H) Lost  Lost 31/2 to 21/2

Having crossed swords with Oundle only 17 days ago, the captain was hoping for a different result this time.

However, it was not to be, our opponents once again prevailing by the same score as last time 3.5 to 2.5.

Wins for the pairings of Lockwood/Kennedy & Dowland/Cooper together with a very commendable half for Bob Ford being  our only bright spots.         Results

Heacham Away Lost  51/2 to 1/2                          Results

On a glorious day by the seaside and plenty of run on the fairways, we commenced battle full of hope for a repeat of last year's victory. Alas, it was not to be. With 3 of the matches going to the final hole, the overall result might have been somewhat different. Unfortunately, the sun shone a little brighter on the home team, giving them a comfortable victory. Messrs. Lockwood & Harper achieving a half, and Roger Davey getting a bottle for nearest the pin were the only reasons to be cheerful.

Ladies Home Lost 31/2 to 21/2                               Results

Despite valiant attempts by the Seniors, and the Captain having his own personal caddie, the ladies proved once again to be our nemesis. In a closely fought match, they triumphed by 3.5 to 2.5. Pairings of Richardson/Deeping and Brown/Sharman being our winners, with Unwin/Kennedy getting a half.

Old Nene Away Lost 4:2                                           Results
