1 Name
Shall be collectively known as The Thorney Lakes Golf Club Snr Section. (The +55's)
The members of this section shall be bound by the following rules, and in addition, to any rules of the Thorney Lakes Golf Club relating to membership
and the use of the Course and the Club House.
2 Objective
2.1 To provide competition golf for members of the section.
2.2 To arrange competitions.
2.3 To arrange matches with Senior Sections of other Clubs.
2.4 To meet on a regular weekly basis (Roll-Up) for the purpose of playing golf.
3 Membership
3.1 A Member of the Senior Section must be
3.1.1 A paid up member of The Thorney Lakes Golf Club
3.1.2 Be aged 55 or over.
3.2 All members of the section playing in the weekly roll - up will pay a levy into the Senior Section Funds. The amount to be determined by the committee at the start of each season.
4 Matches and Dress Code
4.1 Members selected to represent the Senior Section in Matches will be encouraged to wear Team Colours bearing the logo of the Thorney Lakes Golf Club.
4.1.1 A Member of the Senior Section chosen to represent Thorney Lakes Senior Section in matches against other golf clubs must satisfy all the conditions to play in Senior Competitions.
4.2 For the after match meal the members are expected to be dressed in accordance with the wishes of the home club.
4.3 The Captain will arrange the selection of teams for matches against other clubs.
5 Senior Section Funds
5.1 The funds generated from the member’s levy will be accounted for by the Treasurer and an audited Income & Expenditure Account will be presented by him at the Annual General Meeting of the Senior Section.
5.2 The funds will be used to:
5.2.1 Reimburse out of pocket expenses incurred on behalf of the section by any member of the section.
5.2.2 Provide prizes and/or replicas for Senior Competitions.
5.2.3 Section funds may be used as determined by the committee up to a maximum of £500 for any single item or project. Exceptional purchases must first be approved by a general meeting of the members.
5.2.4 The sum of £200 will be made available annually to the Captain. This money will be used at his discretion to cover any costs and expenses incurred by him in carrying out his duties as Captain of the Seniors Section.
6 Management
6.1 The management of the Senior Section shall be in the hands of the Committee which shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting and shall consist of the following.
6.1.1 The Captain who will hold office for one year. He will act as chairman at all meetings. At the Annual General Meeting he will continue to chair the meeting until the conclusion of business. The Captain may if he wishes nominate a committee member to act as chairman during his term of office.
6.1.2 The Vice-Captain shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting and shall hold office for one year, becoming Captain at the AGM in the following year.
6.1.3 The officers shall consist of a Secretary, Treasurer and Competition Secretary. These officers shall retire automatically at the end of each year, being eligible for re-election at the Annual General Meeting. The newly elected Secretary, Treasurer and
Competition Secretary will take up their posts with immediate effect.
6.1.4 The Captain, Vice-Captain and Officers, namely Secretary, Treasurer and Competitions Secretary and up to 6 committee members elected at the AGM, shall serve on the committee for a period of one year. Committee members may be re-elected
for additional years, subject to approval at each AGM. Past Captains may serve one year on the committee in an ex-officio capacity and thereafter may be elected as a committee member for additional years’ subject to approval at each AGM.
6.1.5 The committee may co-opt additional members to the committee as required.
6.2 On the 1st October each year a notice shall be displayed requesting nominations for members to serve as officers and committee members. Nomination forms will be available from the Senior’s notice board and electronically from the Secretary and must be submitted to the secretary by 31st October. All names submitted for election must be proposed and seconded, permission of the nominee having first been obtained.
6.3 The Notice of the Annual General Meeting shall be displayed for three weeks prior to the meeting showing the names of those members offering themselves for election.
6.4 The Executive shall have power to appoint Sub Committees for special purposes and also power to co-opt a member to fill a vacancy occurring on the Committee during the year.
6.5 Where there is difficulty in filling a position from within the committee the executive shall have power to co-opt and these co-opted members shall have full voting powers.
6.6 In the case of an equality of votes the Captain shall be entitled to a second or casting
vote.
7 Annual General Meeting
7.1 The Annual General Meeting shall be held in November each year. Not less than 28 days notice shall be given. The business to be transacted at the meeting shall include the following: -
7.1.1 Apologies
7.1.2 Minutes of previous Annual General Meeting
7.1.3 Matters arising
7.1.4 Financial report of the year
7.1.5 Outgoing Captain’s report
7.1.6 Election of Officers: - Vice Captain, Secretary, Treasurer, Competition Secretary
7.1.7 Election of 6 Committee Members
7.1.8 Any propositions duly proposed and seconded.
7.1.9 Any other business.
8 Representative on General Committee
The role of Seniors Representative on the General Committee will be carried out by the Senior Captain or, at the discretion of the Senior Captain; a committee member will deputise for him.
9 Constitution
No new clauses shall be included and no existing clauses altered or rescinded, except by two thirds majority at the Annual General Meeting or an Extraordinary General Meeting.
10 Special Meetings
10.1 If any five members of the Seniors Section signify in writing to the Hon. Secretary their desire to have a General Meeting of the Seniors Section and state the specific business to be submitted at such a meeting, it shall be the duty of the Hon. Secretary to call such a meeting giving not less than six days’ notice and stating on the notice the business for which it is called, which business alone shall be transacted at the meeting.
10.2 Twelve members shall form a quorum at a General Meeting.
10.3 Four members shall form a quorum at a Committee Meeting.
11 Competitions
11.1 All competitions shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf of the R & A and with local rules as may be approved by the Executive Committee.
11.2 All members of Thorney Lakes Golf Club who possess a current WHS handicap and comply with paragraphs 3.1.1 and 3.1.2 of this constitution are able to enter all Senior’s Competitions.
11.3 The committee will decide the dates when specific competitions are played and on which Thursdays there will be a roll-up. This information will be published on the Seniors’ notice board and may also be in the Club diary.
12 Handicaps
12.1 Senior member’s handicaps will be maintained and updated using the Club handicap system, under the general jurisdiction of the Handicap Secretary of the Thorney Lakes Golf Club. A member will play off a valid handicap in Club competitions. In all singles stroke play and Stableford competitions member’s must record their score in the ‘Pro Shop’ for handicap purposes. The committee will determine which competitions are not qualifying competitions.
12.2. Prizes for the Thursday Roll up will be awarded in accordance with the published prize structure as agreed and amended from time to time by the Committee. The prizes shall be paid in the form of vouchers which will be paid into the club shop to be exchanged for goods purchased from the shop.
